Position Summary The Assistant Track Coach supports the Head Coach in developing a safe, inclusive, and competitive program aligned with CHSAA standards. This role emphasizes skill development, sportsmanship, academic accountability, and positive character in a small rural school setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist with planning and leading daily practices for multiple event groups (sprints, distance, jumps, throws) based on athlete needs and available resources.
- Instruct proper technique, conditioning, and injury prevention in alignment with CHSAA guidelines.
- Supervise student-athletes during practices, meets, and travel; ensure a safe environment at all times.
- Support meet preparation, entries, timing/field event management, and equipment setup/maintenance.
- Promote academic success, attendance, and eligibility compliance.
- Model and enforce good sportsmanship and team culture reflective of school and CHSAA expectations.
- Communicate effectively with athletes, parents, staff, and administration.
- Assist with transportation logistics and other duties as assigned by the Head Coach/Athletic Director.
Qualifications
- Prior track & field participation or coaching experience preferred.
- Knowledge of event-specific training and rural program adaptability (limited facilities/equipment).
- Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Ability to pass background check and meet district/CHSAA coaching requirements.
Season & Time Commitment
- Spring season; after-school practices, occasional mornings, and weekend meets.
